Mitra is a telephone based care line that strives to improve treatment adherence among TB patients susceptible to develop drug resistance due to treatment non-compliance.
Patients are informed about the Mitra service by private healthcare providers, and are asked to leave a missed call on the Mitra care line number. Trained counsellors from the Mitra call centre return the call to conduct a registration process. The counsellor assesses patient needs and suggests treatment options, pre-designed treatment support packages, and also monitors the progress.
Initiated under the SHOPS TB project in 2014, Mitra has motivated many to adhere to the complete course of medication and be completely cured of TB. Patient registration rates at the care line reflect its impact and usefulness.
