Technical assistance to improve maternal, neonatal and child health outcomes through the National Rural Health Mission in Karnataka, India
With the growing recognition that the less developed districts of Northern Karnataka require special attention, in January 2010 the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) announced a five year programme to improve Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH). Developed under the leadership of National Rural Health Mission, Government of Karnataka; the project is implemented in partnership with Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT), in association with the University of Manitoba, Canada. The five-year, eight million dollar technical assistance initiative is being supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The goal of the project is to support the state of Karnataka to improve maternal, neonatal and child health outcomes in rural populations through the development and adoption of effective operational and health system approaches within the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
