THALI launched a tuberculosis (TB) screening and awareness campaign for pourakarmikas, who are civic workers engaged in city waste management. The campaign was launched in association with the BBMP and the RNTCP on Dec. 21. Pourakarmikas form a high-risk group which is occupationally vulnerable to a number of severe health conditions, including TB. The event was inaugurated by the Mayor of Bengaluru Shri. Sampath Raj. Deputy Mayor, Smt. Padmavathi Dakshinamurthy, Chairperson of BBMP Health Committee Mr. Mujahid Pasha, Chairman of the Social Justice and Welfare Standing Committee, Mr. V. Elumalai, and Managing Trustee of KHPT, Mr Mohan H. L also graced the occasion with their presence.
The inauguration was followed by a screening and awareness session conducted by RNTCP for the 120 pourakarmikas who attended the launch. KHPT and the RNTCP will collaborate for the creation of a comprehensive campaign plan which will be submitted to the BBMP Health Committee in January 2018. The campaign is intended to run for three months and reach over 7000 pourakarmikas.
