Deputy Director, Capacity Building and Counselling
Sunitha B.J, a Deputy Director at KHPT, works on counselling and capacity building in KHPT. She has more than a decade of experience in psychosocial aspects of HIV prevention, HIV/AIDS care and support, drug resistant TB, violence against women and women in sex work. She has worked with HIV infected and affected, female sex workers, male homosexuals; care providers for HIV infected groups, drug resistant TB caregivers and adolescents. She has designed training modules, implemented and evaluated programmes and conducted capacity building trainings.
She specialises in gender and sexuality and violence against women and has worked intensively with sex workers on violence issues. She is passionate about bringing in gender equity, reducing violence, empowering women and creating sensitivity among people who perpetuate violence against women.
She has provided technical support to Karnataka State AIDS Control Societies on telephone counseling, and NACO on ANM counseling and on implementing district supervisors’ induction training. She has provided technical support on counseling to Sri Lanka’s HIV prevention programme for Men having Sex with men. She was the state coordinator in Karnataka for United Nations Trust Fund’s violence against women in sex work programme.
She is the Chairperson of KHPT’s committee on sexual harassment. She received her Master’s in sociology from Karnataka University.
