Goal: To reduce the transmission of HIV and STI
in the Indian state of Karnataka
Project Objectives:
- Increased
condom use by female sex workers with clients and other sexual
partners.
- Reduced
incidence of curable sexually transmitted infections among female
sex workers.
- Increased
prevalence of condom use by high-risk men with non-regular sexual
partners.
- Reduced
incidence of curable sexually transmitted infections among high-risk
men.
The project
is being implemented in 18 districts of Karnataka. The project
components include focused HIV and STI prevention programmes for
sex workers and high-risk men in urban and rural areas, and capacity
building of NGOs to support their outreach and peer education
programmes.

Corridors Project

Initiative
Goal:
To reduce the transmission of STI and HIV in the context of
sex work in three districts of northern Karnataka (Bijapur,
Bagalkot and Belgaum); three districts of southern Maharashtra
(Sangli, Sholapur and Satara); and two large urban centres of
Maharashtra (Mumbai and Pune), with a specific focus on reducing
the vulnerability of female sex workers who migrate along this
geographic corridor which are major destination places for Karnataka
migrants.
Project
Objectives:

reduce the transmission of HIV and STI in the context of female
sex work in Bijapur, Bagalkot and Belgaum Districts of Karnataka.

reduce the transmission of HIV and STI in the context of female
sex work in Sangli, Sholapur and Satara districts of Maharashtra.

reduce the migration-related vulnerability of migrant rural
female sex workers from northern Karnataka at both the migration
source and destination locations.

reduce the transmission of HIV and STI among high risk men
who have sex with men (MSM) in the six “Corridor”
districts.
