STI Care & Surveillance
KHPT’s medical wing named Unit – STI, HIV Care and Surveillance broadly works toward setting up and strengthening HIV related services in the state, complementing the efforts of the state in delivering quality services to the communities, undertaking operations research and strengthening surveillance activities.
Specific activities under different projects include the following:
Design, management and implementation of the HIV prevention, care, treatment and support services in rural and urban areas for general population and high-risk populations.
- Contribute to design of tools for assessment, ongoing supportive supervision and management of prevention, care and support services at the community and institutional levels.
- Contribute to development of materials for training and learning of staff working in these centres.
- Contribute to development of systems to monitor supplies and consumables that may be required to be leveraged from other sources
Recruitment, Training, Supervision and ongoing administrative and technical support of clinical staff of the centers.
- Development and implementation of training and capacity building for program staff and partner NGOs.
- Provide inputs into the overall design and technical strategies of KHPT programs and activities.
- Assist with the design and implementation of surveillance activities, including clinical surveillance, sentinel surveillance, behavioral and STI/HIV surveys in the project.
- Contribute to the setting up and strengthening of monitoring systems for data collection, collation and regular analysis and feedback, in relation to the projects.
- Contribute to the setting up and monitoring of systems for procurement and supply of drugs, surgical equipments, condoms and other commodities, required for clinical and preventive services.
- Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of NGOs implementing the projects.
- Support the development of contracts with institutions and partners for the implementation of field surveys and for the provision of care related services.
- Establish linkages to the surveillance and research labs set up at Bangalore Medical Services Trust and St John’s Research Institute, St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences and other labs at the district level, as required.
- Coordinate with capacity building partner FHI for the STI capacity building activities under Avahan, EngenderHealth for technical assistance with HIV Care and with PSI for the Workplace interventions and social marketing of condoms in rural areas.
- Coordinate with KSAPS, in setting up training systems for care providers including the Regional Resource Training Centers in the State through the medical colleges with St John’s being the training of trainers center (TOTC) to build capacities of the public and private care providers in STI and HIV care.
- Work closely with KSAPS in related activities; surveillance, VCTC, STI, ART, OI, TB and care and support.
- Undertake and support research initiatives in the areas of quality of services, facility assessments, costing analysis of interventions, behavioral and biological surveys, etc.
- Leverage resources for care, specifically in relation to orphans and vulnerable children.
- Coordinate with other departments of Health and Family Welfare; including the RCH and TB division, Women and Child Welfare and other sectors to ensure adequate linkages for reproductive health and HIV.
- Provide support to KSAPS and the NRHM in drafting operational guidelines for HIV prevention and care related services.
