KHPT recently participated in the Eighth National Conference of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMCCON 2025) held in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The event was organized by the Kangaroo Mother Care Foundation, India, Neonatology Association of Tamil Nadu, and the State Chapter of the National Neonatology Forum.
Representing KHPT, Dr. Ayeesha Begam presented on “Efforts of KMC Promotion by NGOs”, sharing KHPT’s journey in advancing Kangaroo Mother Care practices in urban Maharashtra. Her talk, titled “From Training to Touch: Strengthening KMC in Urban Maharashtra”, highlighted KHPT’s innovative strategies for empowering healthcare providers and families to adopt KMC as a transformative approach to neonatal care. Dr. Ayeesha emphasized the importance of hands-on training, community engagement, and sustainable systems to ensure successful KMC implementation.
The conference also provided a vital platform to showcase KHPT’s work and collaborate with fellow KMC champions, alongside national and international leaders including Dr. Shashi Vani (President, KMC Foundation, India), Dr. Rekha Udani (Professor & HoD Neonatology [Emeritus], K.E.M & Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai), Dr. Suman Rao (Professor & Head, Department of Neonatology, St. John’s Medical College Hospital), and Dr. Nathalie Charpak (Founder and Director, Kangaroo Foundation, Colombia).
Through these efforts, KHPT continues to bridge gaps in neonatal care, uniting healthcare providers, caregivers, and communities, and integrating KMC into routine practice to improve newborn survival.
