KHPT participated in a workshop on Public Participation in Urban Governance, hosted by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) in Pune on June 26–27, where it contributed a public health perspective on citizen engagement. During the workshop, experiences and learnings in strengthening Mahila Arogya Samitis (MAS) and Urban Health and Sanitation Nutrition Committees (UHSNCs) under urban initiatives, as well as Arogya Sangama–Gram Panchayat Task Forces (GPTFs) initiatives in rural settings, were shared, showcasing how community platforms drive accountability and stronger ties with local government.
A panel discussion on informal workers and circular migrants was also joined, highlighting MAS as an accessible space for migrant inclusion and recommending greater involvement of ASHAs and Anganwadi Workers to map migrant needs and enable cross-sector convergence. Going forward, insights from the panel will be incorporated, as relevant, to refine community engagement models and explore collaborations to advance more inclusive urban governance.
Ms Vaishnavi Akanksha N, Program Manager, NCD Theme at KHPT, represented the organisation at the workshop and panel discussion.
