On May 27, 2026, Dr. Sanghamitra Savadatti represented KHPT at the Bengaluru South City Corporation’s (BSCC) Budget to Action Workshop. The workshop brought together the BSCC Commissioner, departmental officials (Engineers and Town Planners), and experts working across urban infrastructure, planning, migrant and vulnerable communities’ welfare, waste management, health, and climate action to help translate the BSCC 2026–27 budget into a practical action plan for a healthier South Bengaluru.

Dr. Savadatti’s presentation focused on an increasingly urgent question for rapidly growing cities: why climate, health, and social determinants cannot be addressed separately.

Drawing from KHPT’s community level work in Gottigere, Singasandra, and Roopena Agrahara, along with planned work in Anjanapura and Kodichikanahalli, she highlighted how extreme heat, flooding, and the spread of vector borne diseases are already affecting the daily lives of informal settlement residents, outdoor and migrant workers, older persons, and children across South Bengaluru.

KHPT proposed a set of immediate actions linked to existing BSCC budget allocations at both community and facility levels. These included cooling and hydration points in public spaces, strengthening Mahila Arogya Samitis, establishing convergence platforms such as Urban Health Sanitation and Nutrition Committees, training on climate and health linkages, improving facility preparedness, and conducting pre monsoon vector source reduction drives.

The workshop reflected a growing recognition that decisions related to ward level engineering, infrastructure, and governance are ultimately public health and urban well-being decisions.
