March 10, 2026
KHPT organised a three-day participatory workshop in Hospete from March 5 to 7, 2026, bringing together truck drivers, creative thinkers, and subject matter experts. The workshop focused on understanding the day-to-day realities and challenges faced by truck drivers and gathering insights to inform the development of a Behaviour Change Communication BCC strategy for their health and well-being.
Recognising the challenges faced by truck drivers, such as irregular sleep patterns, long hours on the road, and limited access to healthcare, the workshop moved away from conventional top-down approaches. It adopted a human-centred and participatory approach, creating space for truckers to share their experiences, challenges, and everyday realities.
Through interactive discussions and activities, participants explored the complexities of life on the road, including physical, mental, and social challenges during long-haul journeys. The conversations also looked at the broader environment that influences truckers’ health behaviours and access to support systems along transport routes.
The workshop brought out insights into the barriers truck drivers face in maintaining their health and well-being while on the move. These insights will inform the next phase of the project, guiding the development of context-specific BCC tools and ecosystem strategies grounded in the lived experiences of the trucking community.
