KHPT organized a training on screening for asthma and COPD in community settings for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Community Facilitators (CFs), and Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS) members at Gottigere, South Bengaluru, Karnataka, on February 24, 2026. The session covered screening methods applicable in both community and occupational settings, equipping participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to identify respiratory symptoms early among vulnerable populations. It also outlined the screening approach and field implementation plans for conducting outreach activities in the project areas. In addition, the session discussed the expected outcomes of the project, including improved early detection of asthma and COPD, strengthened referral pathways, and enhanced community awareness and engagement in respiratory health.

The programme began with an introduction to the project, followed by an overview of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, along with discussions on the impact of climate and air quality on respiratory health. Participants were then provided hands-on training on the use of peak flow meters and spirometry, along with guidance on using the Sameer app for monitoring the Air Quality Index (AQI), administering the dyspnoea scale, and completing COPD screening questionnaires.
