Launch of Nutrition Program

Provision of Nutrition Support to children in PEPFAR district (Karnataka).

KHPT team in collaboration with state and district level PLHIV networks identified potential donors and individual philanthropists who extend support towards prioritized needs (Nutrition provisions and educational materials) in the field. KHPT and PLHIV networks have identified new donor, SRAMA with an origin of Italy and operating in Andhra Pradesh. The Project Director – OVC Social Protection Project had series of meetings with Care & Share foundation and had formal MoU between APSACS, SRAMA & KHPT agreeing to provide monthly nutrition support to 931 children living with HIV/AIDS in PEPFAR cluster district (Krishna) in year 1.

APSACS, SRAMA & KHPT has launched nutrition distribution program to CLHIVs at Indian Medical Association Hall, Vijayawada on 13th November 2017 on the occasion of “CHILDREN’S DAY”. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Additional Project Director, Dr. Umadevi, Joint Director – Care Support & Treatment of APSACS, Mr. Kiran, District Program Manager, DAPCU Krishna, Ms. BJ Sunitha, Deputy Director, Ms. Agnita, Nutritionist from KHPT, Ms. Swati, Regional Director SRAMA, Representative Mrs. Renuka, Krishna district PLHIV network president and other NGO/CBO partner representatives were part of the launch program.

OVC ORWs mobilized around 150 children and their care takers for the program and distributed nutrition packets. APSACS dignitaries were very happy regarding monthly nutrition support to CLHIVs in Krishna district and requested Care & Share foundation and KHPT to extend similar program in all 13 districts of AP.

KHPT Deputy Director and Nutritionist explained about nutrition intervention and its impact in backward region of northern Karnataka and collaboration with OVC program and nutrition provision program. All dignitaries explained about the importance of regular intake of ART medicine, taking available nutritious food to improve body’s immune system and adopting hygienic practices to maintain good health.
